  1. He is an expert on conducting underwater searches using his sonar equipment. He is not an expert on how to investigate a missing person. He has searched some sections of the river, not all of it. His opinions are just that.

  9.  @amo2464  There is no evidence of her leaving the area. The route she took clearly shows she was heading back home. The simplest explanation is generally the actual one but people don't accept mundane deaths, they have to make it into some sort of mystery.

  30. Indeed. I have been saying since he appeared in front of the cameras earlier in the week that he is an expert on conducting sonar searches and that is all he is ! He is NOT an expert on missing person investigations. For him to make a claim that she is not in the water before searching was ridiculous, then to say that he would have found her is utter nonsense. Suggesting that a third-party was involved is utterly bonkers, he is a glorified diver!

  36. Whatever you believe her point to have been, she has withdrawn and apologised for it. Clearly accepting she was wrong. Did Labour miss her point when saying the comments were, "deeply offensive and wrong"? I suggest that it is YOU that has missed her point.

  41. The police are not "armchair detectives" though. Neither are the National Crime Agency who also say the most likely scenario is the river.

  42.  @helencampbell2064  I initially got confused about that too because the early news reports had quotes saying that the dog walker was seen picking the phone up off the ground. It didn't help that the police stated the phone and harness were found in the area of the bench, rather the harness being on the ground and the phone on it!

You can not say what it would or would not have done. "if she had drowned I'm sure she would have surfaced by now. " Nope, people drown are are never found, some takes weeks. "Something happened to this poor woman" The likely thing being that slope in front of the bench and then the vertical drop into the river at the end of it!
