No its indeed a V12. the W12 was the petrol.
2
I am actually looking to set an inofficial "record lap time" myself around nurburgring, though in a much cheaper "class" of course.... unfortunately my car keeps overheating and I dont have the funds to build a full custom cooling system as of now 😥 . But its always great to see fast laps!
2
Quite common in scandinavia, which is mostly in the EU
2
Highest average speed.
2
@helgelippert1970 You are indeed quite right, my bad in overlooking it. Thanks for setting the record straight!
2
Since 2005-ish, french cars have no general weaknesses compared to other cars. Before that, it was a bit different, as you say.
2
@uraclint This is true, but I was talking about the specific car in itself, not generally about the name. Oh, and it was the very early ninties when Opel put the Astra name on the car that Vauxhall had already used for a good while, yes.
2
Not really, becuse if you lose for example 1 thousand in one sector each, but goes 1 second faster in the third, you are still 0,998 seconds faster than second place at the time. Probably thats what happened here.
2
@Nowheremt Cant disagree with that. Exquisite.
2
World wide perhaps, but hardly any in europe, making his observation correct.
2
@Jimarillion No, not all that much offence really. Sorry if I gave that impression. Its just that there often are lots of disparaging comments on how to pronounce car brands under many car videos, and often the arent even correct and/or made by people that cant pronounce even their own name correctly, as I said. Yours wasnt one of them, clearly. I just thought the guy should get some credit for at least trying. I apologize again. Cheers mate.
2
@Kent. Not stupid at all, have you no sense except what you see in your own home town? It makes perfect sense to compare whats common with eachother... Also, Sweden is a miniscule market with a miniscule proportion of population. Nothern europe is a small outlier in the europe area.
2
@framegrace1 He meant Peugeot, he wrote the 3008 just prior to that if you look. Dont agree with the sentiment at all though, Peugeot cars are as good as anything else, nothing particularly bad about them at all.
2
To be fair, not many are running those kind of diesel cars outside europe anyway, its not just BMW.
2
Almost right, the most well known brands are French and Italian. such as the two brands featured here. Chinese brands are not very well known.
2
@henrischutte1968 It somewhat used to be that way even in Sweden long ago, but then they got more common , which tipped the point of it not being uncool towards it being cool. Also, since they are often very expensive, having a new one is/was a status symbol. 20k+ Eur is nothing to sneeze at when buying what amounts to a "toy car" for your teens for most people. If there is one thing teenagers know, its what is expensive or not, and the more expensive, the cooler.
2
@BertrandNelson-Paris Hmm I find that a bit strange to be honest... Now I dont doubt some kind of marketing material talked about it as "the new SM" or whatever, but I dont see the reality of that, beyond just marketing or a sales pitch. Only real connection would be number of cylinders availible in the top spec, but the CX had turbocharging... Almost everything about the XM follows straight on from the higher end variants of the CX in my view. The CX Turbo 2 prestige (LWB) was pretty upscale, and no slouch. The SM had after all been out of production for 15 years when the XM came out, thats an eon in car terms for a car thats supposed to fill the same market niche, if they were serious about it.
2
@BertrandNelson-Paris Sounds reasonable. Cheers mate.

Depends on the car really, but yes most cars consume the least fuel at about 80km/h, but for many the consumption dont increase incredibly much at higher speeds (within reason of course). Regarding the 130km/h for long periods, I would say just about every car on the road is designed to do 130 km/h more or less indefinitely, and 150 km/h as well. Its not a problem. In the old days of less traffic in germany, many people would take any car to more or less its top speed and stay there for hours on the end if they wanted. It used to be that When you get passed by old Peugeot 205 diesels with 60hp doing 160-170km/h (100-105mph), you knew you had arrived in Germany. I long for those days, now its so clogged up.
2
No shade on you, just a bit surreal from a european perspective to see how you are unaware of for example a Peugeot 205gti, one of the most legendary hot hatches ever. I guess it would be like asking the average european about which is their favorite 1970s american light pick up truck. 😀 14:45 Is a XL1, the one is for 1 liter fuel consumption per 100km driven; It was one of VW early 2000s vanity projects, in this case to make the most fuel efficient car in the world that was mass produced and still could be used as a daily driver.
2
@philthybstard8306 A guy which I pass more or less every day has one parked outside his house on a trailer, but yeah, I havent driven one either.
2
@finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 Well, there was a production stop and a recall on already delivered cars. After that it was produced for a normal number of years. Thats probably what you meant, but it can be read like they discontinued the model altogether.
2
I havent driven in poland, but I hope to do in the not too far future. Regarding drving with an automatic, it isnt very strange. At least to me. You just push the pedal. But some people are very "sensitive" to changes and for them I guess it could be scary...
2
Well you can argue that of course, but its what people like. I am sure people with other tastes werent in any way deprived of alternatives. A lot of people like Mcdonalds, and its very popular measured by number of people eating there, but it still doesnt take away any business, exposure or a single customer of your "local" Michelin star rated restaurant....
2
@ The truth is most people dont care about music you would want them to, and they never did. Mcdonalds outcompeted many other similar establishments, and this kind of music is just more popular than the indie stuff, and always has been. Its in the name after all "pop". Anyway, long ago the general person cared more about the lifestyle and subculture of different music, but when that fell out of favor it showed how little people really cared for a "diverse diet". Max Martin etc was a man whos time had come, by virtue if supplying people with what they wanted. Personally, I dont really care about people eating nuggets ever day nor listening to mass produced pop music either, More power to them if it makes them happy.
2
0:53, thats actually a myth, definitively if going by the wording. "Torque" never matters in any vehicle, only (horse)power does. What people actually almost always mean when they say "Torque" is really "low rpm power". Not the best info source video, sorry, since he kept talking about how "Torque" is what matters.
2
@anth5189 No, he is right. Your presumption is putting the cart before the horse. Its designed to a regulation, all other considerations follow from that.
2
@TheNismo777 Well not really, mine is a normal 3 series with towbar and other family stuff, but as I said I think this is the most honest "manufacturer" lap I have seen for a long time... the "hatchback" category records for example are notoriously of cars that are tweaked quite a bit... I like this car, its cool!
2
No it actually is a Lancer like he thought, the 89-91 model. They look similar to a galant though.
2
@magnuslundstedt2659 Yes, I know about them and the predecessor, I used to be in the Swedish army myself, but its goodthat you gave some more info for others to read :)
2
An old friend of mine works at Scania, for whatever its worth. Pretty big employer around here.
2
You wanna get 900++ horsepower out of a 3 liter "pump fuel" NA engine, you are gonna need some revs to do it. The noise is just a bonus. :)
2
@samiraperi467 Yep, I can confirm both of your comments 👍
2
@Marieisso You are a class act, Marie. Fantastic 2024 to you as well.
2
@JirkaEnjoy You are absolutely right. I really did think it looked like it drove like a FWD car in this video.... Incredible. I must say, a shameful display by me to allow myself to be so influenced by how I thought it drove, that I thought those were the class rules. Should have looked it up better before posting, even though I felt reasonably certain. Thanks for the post.
2
Cause they can afford it, thats why. So why shouldnt they. Europe would be exactly the sme, if the general european had the same economy as the general American do, bet on it.
2
It seems Ian suffers from late stage "(Opel) Manta-blindness". Pray for him, doctors often say there is nothing to be done. Very tragic.... ;) Anyway... 9:48 is a Peugeot 505.
2
It was mostly 3 litres for most of the v10 era, but yeah.
2
I dont know at all, but I seriously doubt digital screen plates are a thing in the EU.. what would be the point? Cant think of a single benefit from the perspective of the authorities (the ones who want you to have a plate in the first case), to be honest.
2
I am a fan of the brand and have owned a C5, one of the last with the funky suspension... Worked well enough. Would love to own one again, but unfortunately they dont manufacture any model that would fit what I use my cars for right now, sadly.
2
They dont know anything else, that why. Old myths die hard.
2
Well I wouldnt say "premium brand", they were a "mid range/lower mid range" brand, one could say. But thats ok.
2
@helloweener2007 It theoretically can be a Ferrari F40 with a Suzuki Swift bodykit.... But its way more likely to be a Swift. Same with the Suzuki/Subaru, I should think.
2
wait, what? Not a single of those cars you mentioned are V4 ? You must have mixed up something with the specifications.
2
Its, ironically, exactly the opposite actually. The more moderm amenities you got, and the larger city you live in, its more likely to know less about this kind of stuff. Thats because there are so many other things availible to focus on. So no, not necessarily fake at all.
2
@enlightendbel Your last sentence is a bit questionable in parts. Certainly the "better for your wallet" is far from categorically true, and if following the manufacturers oil spec, likely the inverse: Its worse for your wallet.
2
You are right, but I have heard it from a lot of people, not just Americans. Older Swedes passing through are often very scared of it, compared to the slow and almost empty roads we got in Sweden. For me, I thinks its not fast enough these days, with all the traffic and stau but it is what it is. Ironically, even though the speed limit is max 120 km/h in Sweden, and even that is rare, its almost easier to have a higher average speed here, since there is so little traffic and no stau to eat up your time.
2
I live in semi rural Northern Europe, and I can say I havent used public transport in 20 years. Just no reason for it since I got a car, that I need anyway.
1
Whats dumb about it?
1
@shaggings Pretty solid research since long, long ago show they increase visibility even in daylight and decreases accidents. Question really was why it took until dedicated "DRL" light and legistation for the rest of the world to catch up. What surprises me is is if you got no auto dipped beam on when engine is on, but have to put it n manually? Here in Sweden where the dipped beam/DRL legislation comes from, all cars have it auto since the law was took effect, as far as I know. So since the 1970s or so.
