Grow your own produce and supplement with the grocery store. Can and freeze your harvests and build a massive pantry.

Many people would be surprised by the number of employers that provide tuition assistance. Even McDonald's offers a number of tuition assistant programs. There are also a number of unions that offer tuition assistance for their members.

Her business failed, though or why would she be looking to work for someone else? Successful entrepreneurs aren't out here struggling with unemployment. I'm quite baffled by why so many independently minded young folks want to work for someone else. She should dust herself off and try launching another company.
4
Why make better choices when you can just talk crap on social media all day??🙄
4
@fortunateson2 I agree but they have fans who support them so it would be in their best interest to give up the 9 to 5 work and focus on social media influencing.
4
Coffee at home like a peasant? THE HORROR!!! 😱😱😱 😂 These tik tokers are delusional.
4
Yes, He most certainly is but these rebels aren't trying to hear that.
4
Yup. Word on the curb (from inside the unions) is that the powers that be allowed them in here to give them certain contracts. I won't say what contracts but there's a reason so many billionaire entrepreneurs have been put into Governor offices all over the country.

I HATE when organizations don't follow up with the rejected applicants. Typically it's because that HR office doesn't have the staff to contact each applicant directly. I (HR pro) personally believe that it's good practice to let the rejected applicants know that they haven't been selected. What I would do when counseling rejected applicants is inform them of other openings and encourage them to apply for those.
4
Especially avoid them if you're highly skilled.
4
Lol. This is terrible advice if you don't actually know the hiring manager. HR professionals are typically busy and don't have time to meet with random applicants. If you're dead set on networking your way into a position, the best way is via job fairs and your local Chamber of Commerce. The CoC oftentimes have networking events for members but will also invite nonmembers. Always keep an updated resume and BUSINESS CARDS with your contact information. Another way to gain entrance into an organization is by temporary positions. Check with local staffing agencies to see if they have any positions available at the company you're interested in. Personally, I think it's good practice to just apply for any temp positions you may qualify for. Some companies, like Manpower, offer specialized training for their associates. Once you've been working in the temp position for a while, if you like the job and company, go on the company's website and start applying for the permanent positions. MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE YOUR RESUME WITH YOUR CURRENT TEMP POSITION AND LIST ALL COMPANY SOFTWARE YOU'RE USING. Also, please please please check your resume and cover letter for spelling and grammar. This is actually a big deal. Resumes with these issues typically get tossed. When there are office potlucks and functions, go. Even as a temp, you can network and make connections. Continue to apply for permanent employment while temping- especially at the organization you're already working at.

@sagittariushenanigansss Don't take offense. I just don't want applicants following that advice as HR managers don't typically respond well to cold calls. Most applicants don't understand corporate culture. HR offices are notoriously conservative. Like, I won't bore you guys with stories I've collected through the years, but believe me when I say that these HR offices are largely populated by Karens. They're older white ladies who loathe anyone outside their own demographic. You have to be super strategic to even get an interview because illegal/unethical hiring is rampant in many offices (these Karens are really something else). I'm trying to help applicants navigate a very difficult terrain so it's important to have helpful information out there.
4
@survivingthetimes Agreed. I'm glad others agree with me on this one. These applicants aren't being strategic at all. Most employers don't want to deal with social media loudmouths. They should start their own businesses and brands. I just don't think everyone is meant to work for someone else.

Cancer is serious. I would've advised she go on TEMPORARY Disability to deal 100% with the diagnosis. I don't believe in cancer patients working. When you have a serious disease you shouldn't even be thinking about work. I tried to work with a major, life threatening disease but it didn't work and I had to retire.
4
Maybe in some instances but in my very long HR career I saw that it's mainly the Karens in charge of HR.
4
Angry, hostile vloggers can't figure out why they can't get hired. 🙄

Do you garden? If you can scrape together the money for seeds and have the space, plant yourself a nice, bountiful garden. Only grow the things you like to eat and try to preserve as much as your harvest as possible by canning and freezing. If you can budget it, look into getting a food dehydrator. I pray for your success. You can do it!!
4
Not all secretary positions require certification but some do. Certifications denote actual skills and that's what employers are looking for - highly skilled employees. I would just advise that if you go through the rigamarole of getting certifications, set a hard line when it comes to what you'll work for salary wise. The higher your skill level, the more money you can demand.
3
You'd be surprised by how well many families are doing in this economy. The keys are good budgeting and a plentiful garden. I follow tons of large family YouTubers and the ones thriving are the folks who make gardening and food preservation top priorities. They have huge pantries and full freezers. They're certainly NOT sitting on tik tok complaining.
3
@SigFigNewton A garden doesn't have to be huge. It can be whatever fits your needs. It can be done in buckets and containers. They even have mobile gardens now. For those who can't grow their own food, there's always discount grocers and food pantries. Complaining doesn't fill bellies.
3
@ValenciaRose. Hire him, then. 😂

They're MK androids.

@redgrant4897 There are many upper level executive positions that list the MBA as a requirement. I'm not referring to the specialized licensures. Many many private and public organizations require an MBA for any kind of upper level executive position. This is a fact. I typically advise folks to only go for that MBA if they're trying to promote into that specific position or (in the public sector) title and only do so if it makes good financial sense. I've never heard of a Masters pay bump being only .50. Lol. That's someone who did zero research before going back to school. The candidates I counsel typically see AT LEAST a 40% pay bump.
3
Typically if they repost after interviews it's because there's a specific applicant they're trying to hire but for whatever reason, the applicant didn't get chosen. In some cases this is actually illegal hiring. I've said this a million times: illegal hiring is a HUGE problem in HR but nobody seems to give a cr@p. I don't know what the answer is. That said, some titles are posted multiple times because there are more than one vacancy.
3
For those struggling with food insecurity, I would suggest to apply for EBT. Also, check with local food pantries to see if they can help. If you can get ahold of seeds and supplies, plant a garden and learn food preservation. Gardening paired with food preservation is the key to battling inflation. Build up a bountiful pantry and full freezers. I highly recommend YouTube channel Frugal Fit Mom. She specializes in discount grocery shopping and meal planning. Her videos are very helpful if you're struggling with food insecurity.

A truly hireable applicant is not going to be angrily whining on the internet. I worked in HR for years and can tell pretty quickly who's going to be a good fit in an organization. These angry young people on tik tok aren't going to be hired for any descent positions. My suggestion would be for them to start their own companies and do gig work on the side if they're not interested in making themselves more hireable.
3
I'm curious as to what his skillset actually is. He doesn't mention it once in his temper tantrum. Having a degree is not a skill and tells the hiring entity nothing about the actual talents he'd bring to an organization.
3
I feel like a very real conversation about mental health isn't being addressed. Watching many of these tik tok videos I noticed that a lot of applicants complain about the toll their job search is having on their mental health. While job searches can be frustrating, if you're experiencing mental unwellness as a result, a psychiatric eval may be warranted. A job search is supposed to be business. To take a rejection personally is not healthy. If an applicant is becoming seriously depressed because they're not being hired, I would suspect that they may be unhireable due to mental illness. In this case, they should halt their job search and get mental health help immediately.
3
@saininj Nah, that's not what's going on here. There's no upright spirit where every other word out of your mouth is a swear word. You have to know how to carry yourself when looking to work for someone. You're representing their organization. Everyone is different but I personally wouldn't want any of these profane folks working for me.
3
@saininj I don't advise applicants to work for anything less than a liveable wage. I wouldn't so I don't expect anyone else to but that's just me and I don't make the rules. I have my own conspiracy theory when it comes to these low wages but I won't bore y'all with that one. 😂 All I can advise is to swerve on any position not paying a living wage - especially if you have a strong skillset.
3
If you decide to go the temping route, look for organizations that hire temporary employees directly (not via a staffing agency). Some firms have policies regarding temps and will hire you permanently after you've been working there a set amount of time.
3
@inherbeautyrising I'm aware but I personally don't think that it's a good idea. When embarking on a job search, you MUST be focused and highly STRATEGIC. An underpaying entry level position in the applicant's degree field is better than a fast food or retail gig. The goal is to get your foot in the door then use your education and experience to apply for promotional opportunities. In many (not all but A LOT) instances INTERNAL applicants have a better shot at higher positions than EXTERNAL applicants.
3
@ericcarson342 All the more reason to work for yourself. Nobody's forcing anyone to work for others. I've had to explain this over and over but not everyone is meant to work for someone else and that's fine. Sick of the job hunt rat race? Sick of unethical companies and illegal hiring? Easy answer: work for yourself.
3
Most of the postings on third party job apps aren't actual job postings but scams. Most legit vacancies aren't on the job apps.
3
@fullclipaudio That's typically larger corporations who have that "rule." I advise former business owners who like serving their community to pursue public sector positions and most end up with very long civil service careers.
3
Never listen to the tik tok complainers about anything. Most of them are clueless about everything. Lol.
3
@jenniferbryant2700 Lol. Trust when I tell you that your tears are their elixir. I won't bore you with my years of working alongside them, but they don't care about the applicants. On many occasions I was told to flat out lie to applicants (this is typically done when they have a specific applicant they're trying to get hired) and when I told them no all of a sudden I was "rude and aggressive." Seriously, dealing with them is exhausting and forget about even getting an interview with them if you're a straight, conservative black male. The only black men they'll deal with are super effeminate gay ones who worship (or at least pretend to) the ground the Karens walk on. This of course lends itself to a very interesting office mix. Gossip, drama and general foolishness.
3
@justjackie4394 Lol. I retired from that sector of HR after 109 years. Lol! I'm still working in HR but as a consultant. Waay more money! 💅
3
@billwhitis9997 They're frustrated and in some instances, rightfully so. I just totally disagree with this business of job seekers using social media to profanely vent their anger. The intelligent, strategic applicants wouldn't even THINK of indulging in such antics. Not everyone is built to be an employee. I personally believe that these unhireable folks should start their own businesses. That would solve a lot of their issues.
3
@harsh3948 Yikes. You sound triggered. If being employable means nothing then why all the social media tears? Why the diatribes and whining? Sounds like a personal problem to me. Lol. That said, in many of these instances of multiple interviews, there's no legitimate gig. A lot of people are being scammed.
3
People keep posting this about trades but I think it's important to inform folks that the trades are gate kept by the unions. For many jobs in the trades, you need to be a member of that trade's union to even be considered for the position. Before starting trade school it's a good idea to see what the union requirements are for the jobs you'd be interested in.
3
DG is good for those looking for a managerial position right out of college. They do in fact hire, HOWEVER, they tend to have high turnover. Also, they will hold your application for further consideration. For example, you may apply for one store but be contacted about a position at another.
3
@clean_rene And yet it's a certain type of spirit/personality that is making these videos. 🤔 🤔 🧐 I don't understand why so many of these young people are so dead set on working for others. As I've said over and over, not everyone is meant to work for someone else. In this digital age, it's much wiser for these social media personalities to focus on their influencer careers than to be out here looking for some job they'll likely hate anyway. These companies aren't going to hire them.
2
Yeppers. I've tried explaining that to navigate the modern job market you have to be super focused and strategic but most won't listen. It's always "boomer" this and "hater" that. The entitlement mindset is insane. To them I say good luck and God bless.
2
Lol. They won't listen.
2
Nope. There are millions of people eating very healthy, plentiful meals frugally. Many of those folks even have YouTube channels and teach others how it's done. Gardening and food preservation isn't some new thing. Y'all act like people have always had huge grocery stores to shop at. Where I grew up, having a plentiful garden was the norm. You really don't have to spend a lot of money to eat healthy.
2
Healthy food doesn't have to be expensive, though. The key is to grow a plentiful organic garden. I don't understand why these young people don't like gardening. It's the best way to fight grocery inflation.
2
I urge all of the keyboard warriors who are defending this insane behavior to put your money where your mouths are. Hire these tik tok folks and pay them their desired salaries and hours. That solves that!
2
I used to be a profane rebel but I'm not any longer. I'm not perfect nor some saint, just much more spiritually mature. I think that many of these young folks will outgrow their lust for social media attention. When they outgrow all of the foolishness, they'll have no problems getting hired.
2
You have a Master's degree but you don't know where to look for positions outside of Indeed and LinkedIn? Uh......🤔 What are these overpriced colleges teaching these folks?
