I married a trans woman. If you have questions, just ask away. We don’t want kids, so that part was easy for us. If you do some web searches for in-vitro gametogenesis you’ll see that research is proceeding at an advanced rate so this actually could be possible in the future. In the mean time, there is surrogacy and of course adoption is always a good choice. There is no reason to be confused. If someone looks beautiful they are beautiful. No reason to overthink it or let others control your life with their own transphobia.
7
@grassguy1154 Nope. I’m comfortably middle aged with a science degree, but thanks for asking.
7
In Thailand trans women and cis women have their own different beauty pageants.
7
@davidyu194 Thailand would be a strong contender.
7
Millions and millions of trans people use the restroom of their preferred gender every day without issue. Honestly this is not a big problem.
7
@alexo.1388 If you get to pick Jessica Yaniv to represent all transgender people I choose Pol Pot to represent all cisgender people.
7
@ItsBrittanyLajoyce That's a form of conversion therapy to me. Trying to talk someone out of their sexual orientation to appease a homophobic society and religion is abuse and should be illegal in Korea as it is in some places.
7
@ludlow7369 Shows what you know. They are well known famous Thai trans girls easily verifiable with a casual google search. From left to right, Rinrada Thurapan aka Yoshi, Chananchida Rungpetcharat aka Blossom and most famously Treechada Petcharat aka Poyd. If you don’t know this you obviously know anything about Thai trans girls.

Uterus transplants are not disturbing to me at all. On the contrary this is a breakthrough for those who want to have heir own children that don’t have access to it. Combined with in vitro gametogenesis it’s a complete game changer for fertility challenged heterosexual and same sex couples. I couldn’t be happier about it. My wife doesn’t get her estradiol from a government entity. I can literally get that from hundreds of different international sources, including going overseas myself. She doesn’t magically turn into Hugh Jackman if she doesn’t take them for a few months particularly after SRS in that she isn’t producing any T. That’s just not how endocrinology works, love. Of course you’d know these basic facts if you had any experience with trans people and trans pharmacology. I have a lifetime’s worth. Ask any questions you have. I’m not worried about the low probability future of some reactionary government suddenly extorting trans people by denying their medications. I’ll simply leave and never come back. Why would I pay taxes to support my own oppression? That’s just silly.
7
@jacobalvord3480 I'd rather (and in fact do) have both cultural freedom and legal freedom with my wife who is a Thai trans woman living in San Francisco. AND is better than OR. I can inventory all the reasons that LGBT equality under the law is important if you like but I suspect you know all that already.
7
@icyfriday8571 My wife is a Thai trans woman. There certainly is no shortage of quiet and covert discrimination in Thailand against LGBT people but things are steadily improving in younger generations. If only marriage equality could be passed but there are so many other bigger problems with democracy in Thailand, it's certainly not the highest priority.
7
To whom?
7
Exactly. Do something for Pride month Asian Boss aside from highlighting the work of an ex-gay ministry.
7
The news isn’t that Thailand accepts trans people. The news is that so many other countries and areas do not accept trans people and consequently they lead lives of quiet misery wishing they could transition without crushing discrimination, violence and social ostracism. Many who would take steps to transition don’t and drift into substance abuse and suicide quietly instead. Remember this when you marvel at Thailand’s ladyboys.
7
Because you are afraid of trans people? Literal transphobia.
7
@Pakaiotaknya Millions of people are left handed. Billions of people are right handed. Should left handed people be forced to be right handed?
7
It is obvious but sadly many people don't seem to care about trans people.
7
You can’t imagine that someone is simply trans for their own reasons?
7
Unnecessary? When gays and lesbians and trans folks can’t marry the person they love anywhere in Asia? I don’t think so. It’s more necessary than ever.
7
British and Americans go everywhere. That doesn't explain anything. There have been trans women all over South Asia before Columbus sailed the Atlantic.
7
@JessieR2023 Nah. Most Thai trans women in Thailand are not employed in sex work. You'll see them working retail and salon jobs all over Thailand.
7
@LeNoLi. A trans women is a woman to me.
7
Obviously the Japanese are signaling their support of 1400's English longbowmen fighting in the English army at the Battle of Agincourt during the Hundred Years war. Everyone knows those who were captured by the French had their index and middle fingers cut off so that they could no longer operate their longbows, and that the V sign was used by uncaptured and victorious archers in a display of defiance against those French losers. Duh!
7
Thank you. It looks like something will happen but it’s going to be short of full marriage equality. It’s a civil partnership and will include greater property, inheritance and succession rights and make medical decisions if their spouse is ill. It looks like it doesn’t cover the right to adopt children, use surrogates and the right to social welfare. Not sure about being able to take the last name of your spouse either. It’s a first step. Most other countries had a civil union / partnership step before true marriage equality also. It’s still a first for all of Asia!
7
On the contrary, one must see a psychiatrist to help one begin gender transition. All professional medical and psychiatric organizations follow the “wpath standard of care” which includes medical steps to transition. You do actually just get to change your gender. Go down to the courthouse and make it happen. My wife is legally female.
7
My wife is legally female. That’s all the clerk needed to know. Now we’re legally married. Thanks for your support.
7
You threaten my wife with violence and you want to have a conversation? How about you just F off and take your conspiracy theories with you.
7
I don’t see Thai people actually eating very much soy. Mostly it’s sesfood, pork, chicken, beef and rice or rice noodles and vegetables. Soy sauce sure but that’s not really much soy.
7
Not just that. Thai culture has a had a cultural role for trans people for hundreds of years. Lots of familiarity. Buddhism is also very tolerant and 90%+ of Thais are Buddhist. My wife is a Thai trans woman. If you have any questions, just ask.
7
Cis women in Thailand don’t care if trans women use the women’s restroom. My wife is a Thai trans woman and has never had a problem.
7
I can and will base my arguments on what happens in other countries. LGBT people are living better lives in those countries with considerably less injustice because of a few very simple common sense laws that cost nothing to implement. I want that for the the LGBT people of the Philippines. Abortion is off topic. Let’s focus on LGBT issues.
7
Transphobia should be outlawed.
7
Speaking from personal experience, sex also counts and it’s a lot more fun for both parties.
7
Which law are you referring to?
7
You just think you have no problem identifying one’s sex. You claim it’s based on biology but no actual genetic tests have been done to know with any genetic certainty. Again, you and everyone is just guessing. Clearly you live in a world where no androgynous people exist where you can’t make the determination. If someone tells you directly, “no, sorry that’s not my sex” that doesn’t seem correct to you, do you demand a karyotype test right there on the spot? Additionally given your figure for accurately identifying sex you clearly know little about intersex conditions. How are you going to know someone with complete AIS has XY chromosomes?
7
The vast majority of trans women in Thailand are not sex workers. You can see them working regular jobs all across Thailand. Point blank.
7
Lesbians have a lower chance of getting hiv than heterosexuals. Female to female transmission of HIV is almost impossible. Curious that this is almost never mentioned. It’s almost like people are cherry picking facts to make all LGBT people look bad. Nah, that couldn’t be. Yes, gay men have been hugely impacted by HIV. Blaming the victim is really a good look. Keep it up. Dance on their graves while you’re at it. I completely understand how serious HIV is. I was alive before the ARV cocktail transformed HIV from a death sentence to a once a day pill that eliminates it’s impact. LGBT people are human and deserve equality under the law. We’re just trying to live our best lives the same as anyone else.
7
@Myrtel My Gender isn't biology. Trans women want to look like women and be treated by those they love as women. No one is under any illusion that any genetics are being changed but the endocrinology changes of estrogen and androgen suppression are quite significant over time. Trans women are women to me. If they aren't to you, that's fine. We all have free will here. There is no scientific law that says I must karyotype test everyone I meet on the sidewalk and if I detect a Y chromosome or SRY gene I then I must use male pronouns to refer to them or Charles Darwin will rise from the grave and eat my brains.
6
Clearly you don’t speak Thai and know few Thai trans women. Thai trans women use the women’s bathroom everyday in Thailand and refer to themselves as sao praphet song (สาวประเภทสอง) or “women of the second type” all the time while using Thai female particles and pronouns.
6
It really isn't. Most Thai trans women are not sex workers. You can see them all over untouristed Thailand working retail, restaurant and salon jobs.
6
I’m glad you said that. I’ve found that many trans girls have a very reasoned and thoughtful personality. Having the fortitude to make all these changes and take on the expected gender role that one was assigned really forces one to lead a deeply examined life. I highly recommend dating some ladyboys.
6
@grassguy1154 Happy to displease you and it's very flattering that you think I'm so youthful. That's a win / win from where I'm standing.
6
Why is that so hard to believe? Don’t ladyboys deserve love?
6
Damn right!
6
kokam2 Why am I disgusting?
6
Women's room. Unfortunately there is no legal right to do so, not that is really needed since Thai people are pretty relaxed about restroom use. My wife is a Thai trans woman. If you have any other questions, just ask.
6
@Afternoonsun-c9y You're summarizing hundreds of undeclared individual laws in hundreds of jurisdictions and deeming them all fair. Any law, and there are many across the middle east that singles out LGBT people with fines, imprisonment and death is barbaric. The reality is that if LGBT couples are held to a different standard than heterosexuals are than any law is, ipso facto, not fair. This is not about public sex. This is about not committing a crime against the state by being in a relationship with someone you love. It's almost 2020. It's time to welcome our LGBT brothers and sisters to an equal place in society.
6
I know, your transphobia is quite disgusting. Kind of hard to believe.
6
Most trans women in Thailand are not employed in sex work or in tourism. You can see trans women working retail and salon jobs all over Thailand.
6
Powerfully absurd. Plenty of gay men are happily married in monogamous relationships in America and Europe which our good pastor here is on record saying is practically impossible. I’m all for adults doing what they want, I’m completely not in favor of LGBT kids being “willfully” dragged in under threat of disownment to convert to being heterosexual to appease their homophobic parents.
