Cars, rockets and planes and most all mechanical devices are completely fin with 16 and 32 bit processors costing 10c a piece. High end microprocessors are used in server farms for data analysis. Your fuel injection system does not need that much computing power. We landed on the moon with the equivalent computing power of a modern microwave oven.

Because they want it to get worse?

Spontaneously bovine combustion is a real thing and the bodies can burn hot enough to melt through concrete.

Do you know the origins of the nasty party? Try and post it here without being deleted

Bottled water may create a local problem, but their usage consumption is something like 35 seconds of flow from the sacramento river.

I remember working for a "car chip" manufacturer when the president of the company wrote a letter to all employees encouraging us write letters to congress encouraging them to grant most favored nation status to china. I don't know what happened to the president, but the company folded a few years later. glad I got out.

Debt based systems must continue to grow or collapse. Plot (1.02)^t from t = 0 to 100. This is 100 years of 2% grow. For the first 50 years or so, the graph is relatively flat, but then starts going vertical - the bend in the hockey stick. It's still a 2% growth rate no matter where you are, but the difference in the initial conditions become evident. 2% of $1 is 2 cents,of $1, but 2% of $1million is $20,000. This exacerbates the longer you go

@simonesmit6708 It takes a lot of physical personal networking to trade. Especially if you live 500 miles away from a farmer.
4
@Jack Frost You will. Or at least the people responsible for Mountain logging runs will. Not that there will be a need for such thing when all the people who use logs are dead.

@matthewnirenberg Everywhere is within walking distance if you have the time

It doesn't matter what happens after organic material is digested (or decays), it all goes back into the carbon cycle. Going through a cow may speed it up a few years, but it would happen anyway.

You can with LED lights. My house is off grid solar. With a big enough inverter, it's indistinguishable from being on grid. And technically, everything runs from a battery. The solar panels are there to recharge the battery. A 4kw inverter will run everything except water heater, clothe dryer and electric stove. All other household appliances are atiny tiny fraction of what these consume and are better candidates for gas.

A warmer climate is a net positive. So what if there are disruptions, life is not static. We'll live through it.
3
@Real.Estate.Report Maybe that and also that a fender-bender would result in almost certain death.
3
It's probably about giving more power to China who have to import their energy. Being all electric would eliminate their dependence on world oil imports. I think they have the money and reach to convince the entire world of anything.

90% of the US would be dead in the first year with an EMP

@gwestcot YES! Potatoes are the only thing realistically that people should be concentrating on growing.

They were malfunctioning that day.

@Emkei2010 It's also a new age cult. Look up the Theosophy and Thule Societies. Lots of old money behind it.

@stephentomes2634 Live like the amish. I have no idea how much embodied energy they import, but it would be an interesting study.

450lbs of chicken food corn (9 bags) is a whole year of calories and costs $117.

@user-kq5qp6dh8l World-wide control with no safe assets. Nowhere to run to, nowhere to hide. Illegal gold, silver and bitcoin because it was produced using slave labor and is only used by thought criminals.
3
I remember Richard Feynman describing Greece like this.
3
That's roughly 70% of the required calories and we have lots of other food, mainly corn. The US should be fine

Rubbing three blocks together repeatedly makes a perfectly flat surface.

Two other works that people should be aware of are: Manna , a short story by Marshall Brain and The Age of Spiritual Machines: When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence by Ray Kurzweil. It it this book that Harari gets all of his ideas from. I have read Harari, but I have not heard any new ideas b him. Kurzweil is currently the technical director for Google. Manna can be found on the web and there are also audio books of it on youtube. It will take less than an hour to listen to it.

Long history and a lot of fabs are/were/? here.

I havea lot of chickens. Food has gone from $7.99 when I started tracking it on Feb 17, 2021 to $15.99 today

11 November 1941, Hitler said, "One may regret living at a period when it's impossible to form an idea of the shape the world of the future will assume. But there's one thing I can predict to eaters of meat: the world of the future will be vegetarian."
3
@Naheda07 Why don't thy just call uber eats?

@alvinasun8055 I was in Stalingrad and it was pretty crappy. Life expectancy was 55 years. The metro was nice... but then they weren't paying the workers. Alcoholism was universal.

League of Nations turned into the UN, not NATO.

@jant4741 I know a lot of people who live off grid. Some have propane, but most use wood harvested from their forest. They have very little money and would be forced to move and become homeless.
3
It's definitely possible. Anything is possible. It's also not what people expect and without knowledge or a lot of money or a little work, it's like extended camping.
3
Read Ray Kurzweil _The Age of Spiritual Machines_. Ray believes that technology will allow future generations to be immortal. The old people believe that if the can speed up technological process a little bit, they too will be able to get in on this immortality thing. They already control an infinite amount of resources and power and view themselves as gods (Harari), so why not. This is their existential race.

How long can you live off of that and have you tried?

"One may regret living at a period when it's impossible to form an idea of the shape the world of the future will assume. But there's one thing I can predict to eaters of meat: the world of the future will be vegetarian." Hitler's administration decreed an October 1937 policy that "dissolved all corporations with a capital under $40,000 and forbade the establishment of new ones with a capital less than $200,000," which swiftly effected the collapse of one-fifth of all small corporations. Hitler was known to speak at length about various renewable energy sources, including environmentally-appropriate hydropower and producing natural gas from sludge, as alternatives to coal. He declared “water, winds and tides” as the energy path of the future. The “green wing” of the NSDAP was represented above all by Walther Darre, Fritz Todt, Alwin Seifert and Rudolf Hess; the four figures who primarily shaped National Socialist ecology in practice. Am I nuts, or does anyone else see a pattern here?

As far as trucks go, I worked on a driverless truck ca.1993 that could back up pulling two trailers. Most people have trouble with one.

And the printing press

@j4513 The billions of generations of life that exsted up to the present time didn't contribute anything either.
2
At @22:34 "there's something a lot deeper going on". Well..."H[#] was known to speak at length about various renewable energy sources, including environmentally-appropriate hydropower and producing natural gas from sludge, as alternatives to coal. He declared “water, winds and tides” as the energy path of the future." Could it be the same thing?
