The problem is the western governments still believe the propaganda they dish out to their public through the media : that the west is prevailing and they believe in the inevitability of Russian defeat. They still believe Russians are facing intolerable economic hardships, they will not take it, and they will overthrow Putin and someone will take over who will agree to western dictation.

  5. The west is trying to come to terms that Ukraine cannot win or join NATO. There is evidence for it. In Vilnius, the US vetoed Ukraine's entry into NATO and refused to give a road map. To cover up for this, NATO makes out Russia has conceded that Ukraine will join NATO.

  6.  @mandrews1245  Yes, Russia has had the misfortune to be killed and ravaged by invaders - the French in 1812; the German Nazis in 1940s. Before that the Swedes, Poles, Lithuanians invaded Russia but all were beaten. Now, the US is threatening Russia with the possibility of missile bases in Ukraine. The Europeans (French and Germans) have learnt what happens if you invade Russia. But not the Americans. Russia has hung in and survived and beaten all its enemies. Due to the lack of population, Russia's nuclear and hypersonic missile programmes are important. It has to inflict unthinkable casualties on its enemies so that they dare not enter. If it were not for that, the US would have sent troops to Ukraine, and even invaded Russia. In the 1917 civil war, the US under Woodrow Wilson invaded Russia.

  10. It is time for Europeans to disband NATO, and cooperate with Russia. There is much to be gained by working with Russia - it would be a win-win situation. NATO might have been useful in an earlier period but now NATO is just used cynically by the US for creating wars in Europe (as it had done elsewhere) to sell its weapons. Germany now needs to overcome its WW 2 guilt and tell the US to go to hell, and open Nord Stream 2.

  12. Well written. The Europeans were saved from the Nazis by the Red Army. Western Ukraine had Nazi elements since the 1930s (Stefan Bandera). After the war, the Americans were cultivating Banderists in the Ukrainian disapora in Germany, US, Canada and other western countries to use against the Soviet Union. The same Europeans today are backing Ukro Nazis like Right Sector and Azov Batallion (Bandera followers), against Russia. In the period 2010-2020, BBC, Time etc. reported that neo Nazi groups from the west were going to Ukraine for arms training. The US banned the Azov Batallion. Now the neo Nazis who are part of the Ukrainian govt. have become the idols of the western governments. Only Russia can and tear down the Ukro Nazis. Mariopol was a HQ of the Azov Batallion. Russia eliminated them.

  15. It was always a mistake of Putin to have a Wagner group, as a private army. It undermines the national army and also creates alternative power centres and a system of warlords. Now Putin needs to arrest Progozhin, and dismantle the Wagner, and let the Russian army continue in Ukraine. The situation is dangerous for if the US tries to meddle as it did in the the Russian civil war in 1917, this time Russia may be forced to use a nuclear weapon. Ukraine will be the obvious first victim as it will serve as a warning to the west, but if the west still tries to interfere, the nuclear war could spread to them as well.

It is late in the day to build a plant in the midst of a war. It shows how pathetic the west has become. It has to put on a brave shows of resoluteness for its own public. The Russians will be at a loss about what to do. And all the western countries are feeling the economic pinch. They can't maintain services in their own countries, and they want to build armaments factories in Ukraine. Ukraine cannot pay for it. Who will pay for it ?

All failing European and American politicians attribute their misfortunes about inflation to 'Putin's war'. Putin controls western political fortunes. But Zelensky said after the loss of Lysyschank that no more Ukranian cities will fall. What will he say to his handlers after Bakhmut falls ? Ukraine is now subdued after the air and drone strikes on power stations in 40 cities. The bravado about advancing to Crimea is reduced. They know they will get a bigger beating.

Noam Chomksy said the western media 'manufactures consent'. In a recent Palestinian-Israeli fighting episode, the BBC was called out for saying Israelis were 'killed'; but Palestinians 'died'. The first implies a destructive action; the second implies no destruction, it was a natural event. Subtle but wilful distortions shape people's minds : Palestinians are fanatics, Israelis are innocents minding their business. Israel is a creation of the British and French, and afterwards the US is its sustainer. So the western media has to project Israel favourably since it is its chosen one. Criticising Israel will point the finger of guilt on its creators. The Ukraine war has come due to western backing of NATO expansion. But the western media is not going to question the recklessness of their own governments in seeking NATO expansion. Instead, they turn it into a holy defence of sovereignty. They did not defend Iraq's or Afghanistan's right to sovereignty. That is why the west has lost credibility, and outside the west, people back Russia. Every statement on the war now starts with 'Russia is losing'. Afterwards, they tell you Bakhmut might fall. And they will conclude still with 'Russia is losing'. Russia has achieved many goals : (1) Ukraine will not join NATO (2) US is not going to have missile and naval bases (3) the GDP creating part of Ukraine is taken (4) Russia controls the coastal areas and the shipping lanes (5) reconstruction of Ukraine is not possible without Russian consent and (6) Russia has strangled Ukraine's - and Europe's - economies. The reality is frustrating and the sense of being defeated is humiliating, so people console themselves with the media telling us 'Russia is losing'.

One is assuming that the Ukranians would not do it deliberately. The Ukranians have launched missiles at the Zaphorizia nuclear power plant and a POW camp holding Azov Nazis, so why would they not attack Poland. The scoundrel Zelensky was sending messages denouncing Russia for attacking his Polish brothers and sisters !

  25. Why are the British so obsessed with fighting and defeating Russia ? Whether it is Johnson, Truss, Sunak, Starmer, they are all eager warmongers who over estimate Britain's power. What happens if Ukraine strikes inside Russia with Storm Shadow, and Russia retaliates and sinks a British ship, or lands a Sarmat missile on Britain, and the Americans look the other way ? It seems that the UK thinks it drives US policy. The UK is merely a useful door mat of the US. Why was France not invited when its missile is the same as Storm Shadow ? Biden is a lame duck President, he is not in a position to take such a momentous decision which would commit the US to a direct war with Russia. After the election, if it is Trump, he will end this nonsense, he will not allow US to be run by Ukraine and UK. Even if it is Kamala, she will also slowly distance herself and put Germany and the Europeans to shoulder the responsibility for Ukraine.

British intelligence said the Russians were out of weapons in Bakhmut and were fighting with shovels. The Ukranians have still not conceded Bakhmut is gone. He had also read correctly ahead of the western media that the Ukrainian counter offensive is a failure. Western experts say Ukrainians are unable to advance because the weeds are hampering the Ukranians ! Alex in contrast tell us the correct reasons : the three layer defence lines; the Russian capability of combined warfare with attacks by drones and helicopter, artillery and shells, and the sheer lack of manpower in the Ukrainian side.

  29. Ukraine is pressurised by the US to make this suicidal counter attack, come what may. For the Americans, they want to know if there is return on their investment. If not, they would like to cut and run. Ukraine blundered when it allowed Biden's emissary BoJo to pressurise them to abandon the negotiations. But that is what happens when you take someone else's money and become their dependent, they will demand their pound of flesh. Putin had said very clearly that the Ukranians will find when they come back, the terms Russia sets will be stiffer than in 2022. Naturally.

  32. The talk of an expeditionary forces to be sent to Ukraine has been around. British MP Tobias Elwood had talked about creating a 'coalition of the willing' acting outside NATO. Earlier, they thought US would be part of it. Now that even US's commitment to NATO is in doubt, it is left to British, French and Germany. But they don't have the resources, manpower or technology. In UK, a company called Reaction Engines that was supposedly spearheading a campaign to make hypersonic missiles by 2030 collapsed financially. Whereas Russia has used hypersonic missiles and they are virtually unstoppable. Patriots may knock 2% down if all 32 missiles are fired in a salvo, but it is on a hit and miss working mode.

They said that two weeks ago, but that story is quietly dropped now. It is just sour grapes; you defeat causes burning. The western media will move on to another optimistic story for your type of wishful thinker. Some 4 weeks back, the Daily Telegraph said that the Ukrainians have started their offensive, they have crossed the Dnieper, and seized some islands and this was start of the big showdown to take Crimea. That story sank without a trace in a week. It is replaced by claims that Ukraine is doing testing attacks here and there, and that is preying on the nerves of the Russians. Just think of this. The US and its 50 cronies were defeated in Bakhmut by convicts with shovels. If I was you, I would salute the Russians for defeating 50 countries and their arms and money. You should also realise by now that you are not fighting Afghanistan or Iraq, you are fighting someone with the capacity to destroy all western cities, hence you and your surrogate cannot win. You need to swallow your false pride and come to terms with reality.

They have taken Soledat, Bakhmut, and more will go if Ukraine persists. Bakhmut opens up the gates to Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. Russia will come back for Kiev, Odessa and other places.

  36. I would recommend Russia to disband Wagner, and the Chechen militia. Privatising military affairs was started by the US with Blackwater. Russia copied this model and took it too far. Creating such groups is dangerous as it makes a parallel power centre. There should be only one Russian army. Russia should take its cue from the Soviet days when there was only one Red Army with which the Soviets destroyed the German Nazis. Russia should just use the Russian army to take out the Ukro Nazis.

The western hope is now that it will be a stalemate, then they think Russia will agree to freeze the conflict and the west agrees to cede Donbass and Crimea, and the quid quo pro would be the remaining Ukraine will be admitted to NATO and the US will get the coveted missile and naval bases. But Russia will not agree to the quid pro quo above. The Russian quest is not territory, but de-militarisation of Ukraine. That means, no NATO bases in Ukraine.

'They where defeated in Kyiv, defeated in lyman and lost 3,200 sq km, they lost the only regional capital they took in the war and have stuggled to take one town of just 70,000 in 11 months. None of this from the supposed 2nd best army in the world is impressing anyone they can win this war. ' But at the end of the day, Ukraine has lost 20% and that is gone for good. Ukraine is surviving only because of western help. If the Iraqis and Afghans had a coalition helping them in the same way, the US would have lost early. Russia is prevailing, slowly but surely, against Ukraine + US + 30 others. And it is also winning the economic war. It has crippled western economies with high inflation and de-dollarisation. The Russians have single handedely ended the western 'rules based international order'. It is a tremendous achievement. Even China could not do that.

Russia's economy is essentially self sufficient. Also, they have found alternative trade partners. Your 'modern gear flowing in to Ukraine' will make no difference. You said Himars were game changers. Now the western media which said Himars were game changers say the Russians jammed the GPS and the Himars are not hitting targets. The Russians have destroyed one Patriot and damaged one out of a battery of three; this is slowly being admitted. The western media, Stoltenberg and all the rest of the gang, said that the west cannot produce enough artillery shells to meet Ukraine's consumption. NATO has admitted it cannot ramp up production. The Russians can and have. They fired 7 shells at the Ukro Nazis in Bakhmut compared with one the Ukranians fired. Against the Patriots and tanks, they will keep attacking them with drones and the like, till the west cannot supply enough Patriot missiles. This is their tactic. It will be like the artillery shells. The Russians can turn Ukraine into a wasteland which is permanently dependent on EU aid. They will not allow any reconstruction. As for demographics, what about Ukraine ? 30% of its population is refugees. Ukraine has lost a lot of men in Bakhmut to no avail. The war is lost for the west. You know the saying 'Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall and fell down and all the Kinf's Men and Horses could not put him back again'. That is Ukraine's situation. The Ukraine of 2014 is not coming back, still less the Ukraine of 1991. It is gone for good. If they continue, they will lose more. Anyhow, the west must continue out of false pride. Defeat is painful to accept. This Ukranian counter offensive is the last desperate throw of the die. It has not taken off even. Once it peters out, the US will move on to China and tell Ukraine to accept the reality.

Indeed, when it is clear Ukraine is not going to exist in the form of 2014, let alone 1991. Examples of western make belief : Germany said it was going to build a tank factory in Ukraine ! BAE systems said it was going to open an office in Ukraine to rebuild it with weapons. The west appears to be making wishful projections of rebuilding Ukraine in its image when the war is lost.

The US financed and supported a coup d'etat in Ukraine against an elected government, it aided groups that are Nazi like Right Sector and Azov Batallion, to stoke anti Russian nationalism. The purpose was to get hold of naval bases in Ukraine. Russia asked for a security guarantee, the US declined, so Russia stopped US machinations in Ukraine. The US has a despicable record overthrowing governments in Latin America, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and installing puppets who it can control. That might have worked in those countries, but if you try that with Russia, they will maul. The US sent troops to Iraq to evict Saddam from Kuwait (although the US encouraged Saddam to invade Kuwait and sold arms), so if Russia has robbed Ukraine of its vital areas, why does the US not send troops to Ukraine ? The reason is the US and its European allies do not have the courage to fight Russia. In that case, why did you encourage Ukraine to think it could get into NATO ? The US is shameless and has let Ukraine down.

If you are referring to the agreement to allow grain shipment, that was not Erdogan. The President of the African Union visited Putin (he ignored the EU) and asked for relief on grain shipment. Putin agreed, Erdogan and UN were intermediaries. Russia at one time reconsidered stopping it, because there was news that the grain was going to Europe. The damage to Ukraine some weeks back was $ 700 billion, it will cross $1 trillion and it will keep mounting. Russia can keep going, you will find it hard to continue with handouts to Ukraine. Seizing 300 billion is irrelevant, it is not enough. Besides, there is no way Europeans and US can enter for reconstruction, as Russia can keep the war open. If a few of you get killed, you will run away. You have led Ukraine up the wrong path. The Ukraine of 1991 is not returning. In what form it remains will be decided by Russia, and not you. Russia has changed the western run world order for good. Only Russia could do it.
