  3.  @brendanalfo411  Consumption will continue to be dominated by the West. The West can produce much more inputs if it wants to. Inputs come from across the globe because of globalization (bad for security) and cost (it's always better to go after low hanging fruit), but also because of the green agenda which for example bans coal in the West, but not in China, India, etc (a truly insane policy if you believe in the green agenda, in which case carbon emitted anywhere has equal importance, or if you don't believe in the green agenda, in which case you are harming Western economies and benefitting our enemies). Madness. 🤦

  14. If the EU suceeds in getting a military and expands then will non EU nations that have currently good relations with the EU then consider it an inevitable threat? How would the USA, UK or Turkey view the EU then? A potential rival perhaps? With a huge military comes the temptation to use it. Just a thought which occurred to me now.

I'm extremely bullish on America's future, with two caveats: the US is bettig big on Mexico, which considering all the problems is bound to disappoint to some extent and the US thinks that the shale oil revolution will last - it won't. Will these problems derail the US juggernaut? No. Will it have to think again and adjust its policies to adapt. Yes. Just something to think about IMHO. All the best everyone.

I've heard that in the UK 60% of people young enough to have children never intend to have any and quite frankly I suspect that is a low figure. This is literally slow motion suicide. I'm Scottish and of three children I am the only one to have a child. All the best Joanne.

I trust Peter's geopolitical and to an extent his demographic insight, (though he hasn't made the connection that the rise and fall of demographics is what shapes the economy) however his macro economic insight appears to be awful. A LOT of data points to the whole world (thanks globalization) is way overdue for a significant deflationary event (stock market crash, etc) and a deep recession which will probably last for 5 to 10 years IMHO. Just my 2¢. All the best.

I have followed the war every single day from the start, unfortunately not from 2014 as it wasn't publicised, and if I was young I would be in Ukraine now. Victory will come and Russia will be pushed out and damaged so badly that they will never be able to try again. 🌻💀🌻

  30. ​ @wisenber  Bear in mind that Argentina has constant high inflation as a result of unsustainable government debt (since about the end of WW2?). In the first half of the 20th century Argentina was an economic powerhouse. It's amazing how politicians can screw everything up. I had huge hopes for Milei, but then he didn't shut down the Argentine Central Bank, so it doesn't matter how well he does because the next regime will just borrow like crazy. 😢

  38. I agree with a lot that Peter says and fundamentally he's right, but there are two problems. 1. The government spending by the USA has been hugely irresponsible and pushing rates higher will become unaffordable. 2. A financial crisis and stock market crash is on the way and the fed will not raise rates under such conditions, it will cut them to zero. Given these two points the US government could hold rates low and let inflation rip until the deficit is a healthier percentage. This would be a sneaky and horrible tactic for the people, but a smart move for the government, so guess what they will probably do. After that, and we're talking probably about two years, I agree with Peter that rates will rise substantially. Peter's strength lies in long term forecasting, but his short term is not so good IMHO.   46. Oh yeah, China is formidable, but not in the way which most Western analysts focus on. The West focuses on China's air and sea power, but ignores the nuclear ballistic missile threat. China has way more than 400 nukes, probably double that. In a full scale conflict between the US and China, China would lose a conventional war very quickly so such a conflict would likely escalate to a nuclear one fast. Everyone assumes that China will take a beating, but not go nuclear and that is absolutely wrong. Could the US protect its cities against Chinese ICBMs? Not 100%. So say only 5% got through (and this figure is probably way too low), that's at least 40 nukes hitting US soil. Ok, it would be much, much worse for China, but the USA would suffer catastrophically. Just my 2¢ of course.
