When people said that Ukraine didn't have the capacity to fight Russian submarines, they were talking about submarines at sea and under the surface , submarines in the etymological sense: sub (under) - mar (the sea). They never said that Ukraine couldn't fight Russian submarines engaged in conflict the Russian way , i.e. on land and without cover*, *directly visible from the sky. 🤦‍♂ It's like their Ka-52 helicopters: they boasted a lot about their invulnerability... until they had to land them, because fuel is not infinite, nor are pilots. I don't know, maybe one day Russia will be able to afford a hangar.

If a weapon, i'd say it's strange the beam is so wide. The same amount of energy could do much more damage in a thinner beam section, especially if pulsed at the target's natural frequencies (not necessarily in the visible spectrum). As it stands in this photo, I'd say it's a very effective way to blind the cameras of a drone or slow flying munition by pointing it with this.

Candidates simply can't do the math. It's much easier to draw conclusions for people actually protecting their families or the land that is actually part of their country, and who fight only because some people attack them.

This is not a video game. *It's the type of ammo and launcher that make possible the destruction of a tanks, not the size of the automobile machine carrying it. An anti-tank missile launcher of anti-tank mine on a bicycle is still anti-tank. In fact, I find this concept quite clever and promising : - at least you don't lose men in case of mutual destruction. - no men to protect mean much less armor, a lighter vehicle, improved mobility - no men also mean better fuel autonomy and no more dependance on supply for men. Of course, many details can turn it extremely effective of totally ineffective : doctrine, resistance to interference and jamming, manufacturing reliability, operators' training, vulnerability to other type of weapons used together with thanks, etc, etc… I think Ukraine and many other nation in the world would be glad to have something like that for their defence. I bet unmanned machines of all sort have a great future in warfare and many other preferable applications. Machines are much less versatile than humans but much better than them at the tasks they are designed to do. The role of the human being is to pilot machines, not to clutter them with his body.

They are too rare to win a war alone, but they are abnormally efficient on the battle where they operate, and a nightmare for their opponents.

Such devices are fast (about Mach 3) and travel far from the ground (dozens of kilometers high), meaning that one second difference in interception can make a huge difference in where it falls. Unless you have outstanding defense missile or interceptors already in the sky, you have to wait for the missile to come closer to the ground before you can intercept it, and then it's too late to have many options left. Besides, because this is a ballistic (although guided) missile, the sooner and higher you intercept it, the less you control where it falls. It's possible that this beach was the only place were to make it fall without risking it to fall on Sebastopol (it the aim was the military port, for example).
