  31.  @tatts1901  My point is that hitting anyone, child or adult, is a pathetic way to try and make them behave the way way you want them to. And as a child whose parents loved them as well as they could considering the way they had been raised, and who was also "smacked" from time to time by my father (or by other adults at the schools I attended) until I was old enough that he (and they) realized I would return the "smack" if it happened again, it was absolutely detrimental to our long term relationships.

  32.  @tatts1901  If you don't accept there are cause and effect relationships from things that we experience as children that shape our attitudes and beliefs later in life then there isn't much point in continuing this exchange as from my experience that's not pseudo science but reality. Likewise, if you think it's okay to use even light physical violence against a child, especially a small child, then again, we're at an impasse. And since you brought it up, I think it's also a bad idea, possibly even more damaging, to tell a child they are useless or incompetent or to use other verbal and emotional abuse to discipline them. It's unfortunate that it takes legislation to help influence adults to find non-physical means to correct their children when they misbehave, but if that's what it takes then I'm not against it. It's clear we are going to have to agree to disagree about this subject and I have to get on with my day now so I'm moving on. Take it easy.

  39. Conscription is BS for two main reasons (really more but these two main ones). First, not everyone is cut out for combat and no soldier with any sense would want someone who doesn't want to be there being there. There is no way to rely on a soldier that has been forced to be there. Second, as long as the kids of the rich and powerful can avoid the draft then it's a corrupt process that no one else should be forced into.
