First issue is that NOPD is severely understaffed...mostly due to 1) pay is below most other agencies for same work/risk, 2) police officers are overly scrutinized for their arrests, and 3) still trying to work around the consent decree. The other part of the problem is that Orleans now has a progressive DA who refuses to prosecute non-violent crimes. And even for violent crimes, allows the bonds to be set so low that the criminals are in and out of jail in 24-48 hours and then back on the street to continue their crime sprees. Criminals know that the odds are in their favor to either 1) avoid capture, or 2) if caught, be released almost immediately.

  4. The city began recall proceedings of the useless mayor, now they need to start recall of the DA. Total incompetence in charge of this city. Gunslingers get a pass in exchange for their current weapon...now all they need to do is go steal a new one.

It should be classified as radio soap opera, because he is in total fantasy land.

  17. They should cut all her pay...it's not like she is getting anything done. What is the city paying her for? New Orleans has become a total crap show under her leadership...it was bad before, but she has lost total control of everything. Public services (water/sewer/trash) are almost non-existent, Crime is at its worst (just was named city with highest murder rate per capita), NOPD is losing officers faster than they can recruit, and now she is playing shell game with taxpayers money. She gotta go.

  18. Sounds like the judge was negligent in carrying out her duty...if this clown needed drug rehab, the best place for that to happen is jail. Maybe the judge should be investigated, she may be getting kick backs from bonding companies, and why she allowed this career thug to get out on bond...$$$.

  20. Plain and simple explanation...Mayor is useless, does not care because she is now term limited, her last hoorah. DA does not prosecute crime and has run, and been elected on that platform. Criminals know that police are extremely short staffed, so most likely will not be caught, and if so, they will not be prosecuted, per the DA's plan. The fix is to toss the mayor back to Cali, toss the DA in jail for tax evasion, toss the police chief because he does not know half of what is going on,...then bring in Batman and Robin to reign in the criminal problem.

  21. The part of story that is missing is that suspect was fleeing the police and she rammed a JPSO vehicle... Officer had right to shoot as that is considered an attack on an officer. Additionally, she was drunk, and driving around with 4 kids in the car, why does news report report that part of story...she was endangering children while she went on a DUI rampage.

Richmond could be on the pipe, or blow, or needled up...how do you know unless you test? If same happened to one of the common folk, they would be field testing, blood testing the hell out us, so same should apply to royalty.

He may not have known what he was doing during his episode, but neither did the police officers when he ran toward them with a pointed object in his hands...they want to go home to their families too. Why did the mother call the cops in the first place...was she in fear of her life? Sad story, but all too common an occurrence with people with mental disorders.

  40. The equipment is not the source of failure, SWBNO as a whole is the Failure. They cannot get a basic water bill correct, but oversee billions of $$$ of pumping and drainage equipment and systems within the city. The city is below sea level, so competence it critical when it comes to maintaining drainage, and they have proven time and again that the task is way beyond their reach...bring in some professionals not affiliated with government and maybe there will be progress and protection from flooding.

When it takes an outside investigation to bring light to illegal and fraudulent activity occurring within the organization, the problems usually stem from much higher within. Maybe they should start digging deeper into this entity...when there is smoke there is usually fire. Probably good time for a complete house cleaning, or better...dissolve the board and roll it into the Public Works Dept.

My approach would be quite different...criminals would be feeling hot lead flowing through their upper bodies as I was taking back my property. If the DA and Mayor cannot get a grip on this, other citizens of this lawless city will also be taking the law into their own hands.

It is a known fact that people from all over the world converge on New Orleans during Mardi Gras, and the world knew that the virus was affecting all countries, even US in Seattle, prior to the first parade rolling. Strong leaders with common sense would have begun restricting large gatherings then, including Mardi Gras, but as always, our corrupt leaders in Louisiana saw only dollar signs instead of warning signs and decided to continue forward into the party.

So councilwoman Palmer originally was OK with permit for height exception for this developer and approved it to be almost 3x the standard, then the building collapses, now she wants to classify it as a land grab opportunity. This council is totally lost in confusion...before the developer should be able to do anything, they should be held accountable for repaying the city back, along with all the surrounding businesses, for all the money and costs that were lost and expended on this fiasco.
