City needs a complete overhaul...bring in change from outside the dept, not from within the already failing organization.
4
Yep...now he gets to be some guy's girlfriend in the pokey for the next 4 years. Full circle.
4
Parents aren't sure what charges they face? That pretty much explains the root of the problem here. Their child is out terrorizing the city with vehicle break-ins, vandalism, and robberies, and they cannot comprehend why they need to show up in court. Seems pretty self explanatory.
4
War Zone...probably going to be like the "Purge". Entertainment will be as follows...Gang fighting, shoot outs at the Nature Center, car doughnut competitions in the entrance areas, Purse Snatching and Carjacking in the parking lots, and how to run from the minimal police presence that will be staffing this wonderful and exciting event.
4
Why would Governor include any New Orleans Council or Law Enforcement members in his Task Forces? They have been a total failure thus far, and are the main reason we needed a Task Force in the first place...to get stuff fixed. Hopefully, the Task Force finds that the real problem is the city leaders not doing their jobs and recommends an overhaul of the entire city government, mayor included.
4
When you represent yourself as a Public Servant, your personal business, is public business. As the mayor, or any other city leader, you are supposed to be the standard by which others measure themselves...if she cannot pay her taxes, she shouldn't hold the rest of the public responsible for paying theirs. Example is if a Cop robs a bank, they would most certainly lose their job as LEO, why not the same standards for public servants?
4
Maybe the the layoffs should start at the mayor's office, specifically her. City has been mismanaged for too long...she locked everything down, which caused a major drop in sales tax revenue, now she wants to play catchup with new tax gimmicks. Poor leadership leads to poor results, here is the evidence.
4
She is saying jail is broken...Management of Jail is Broken. She has no clue what she is doing in that job, and as a result, no amount of increase in money will fix that.
4
@TheJesselopez1981 Death penalty is not murder...it is punishment for committing murder. There is a big difference in the 2. It is not a crime to administer death penalty; however, it is a crime to take an innocent life (Murder).
4
Mickey Doomus just spent $40 mil for this guy to be on IR most of the season. pretty sad deal.
4
She knows the Feds are about to drop the hammer on her, that is why she is trying to lay low. Vappie, her booty guard is going to flip on her and make a deal when he sees jail time coming his way. Teddy’s house of cards is about to come crashing down…justice is slow, but she is going to feel it soon.
4
Who is going to pay back the $50k?
4
Don't commit a crime, don't run from the police, do not resist their orders, and you will not have to worry about getting beaten up by cops who are doing their jobs and want to go home safely to their own families after work each day...pretty simple solution.
4
If that 24 YO drew his weapon first and aimed at the store employee, then shooting was justified...Rule #1...if you draw your weapon, you should be prepared to use it immediately. Once weapons are introduced, altercation has escalated and all bets are off. Shoot or be shot.
4
Lost cause with this mayor...empowered by a failed recall so thinks she is now immune and will continue to drive city further into doom
4
Cantrell response to investigation, “I have no idea what is going on”. That pretty much sums up the last 6 years of her terms as mayor of New Orleans, and most likely how it will be until she exits the mayors office.
4
Easy question...were there funding stops in other parishes? If not, then it's probably safe to say that state is concerned that Mayor Latoya is sending city into a major financial crisis.
4
Now we understand why she is so skeptical about investigations...when you are hiding skeletons in the closet, investigations are the last thing you want to happen.
4
Let's be honest...J.Williams is probably guilty, but in order to maintain the balance of power, he was found not guilty (not innocent). Williams & Burdette provided the tax preparer with all the info he needed to fudge the tax returns. Both were fully aware of what was being done, but refused to take responsibility...instead, they tried to throw each other into to fire to cover themselves, so someone was surely to get burned, and it was the female partner. If they were to review Williams personal taxes, he would also be guilty, but they did not press that far. Maybe next time.
4
If you have insurance, file a claim with Homeowners policy.
4
Pump the brakes... NOLA needs a Police Superintendent from outside the local area. Definitely do not want someone this useless mayor is sponsoring, no more puppets for Queen Teedy.
4
The leadership of this city is extremely irrational...find a solution, that is what you were elected to do. They are taking the easy route instead of addressing the issue. Why not just cancel all parades through end of Mardi Gras? Mayor took same approach regarding her taxes...she did not agree with her taxes so she stopped paying.
4
Sounds like a coverup for something larger than the car accident and resignation...Latoya probably has her skin in something this guy was involved with which has not been brought into the light yet. Dig deeper, follow the money, and truth will be exposed.
4
News Flash Bro...Social Media is not private...that is why they call it SOCIAL MEDIA. Many people have made the dumba$$ mistake of going on a Facebook or Twitter rant and losing their jobs and screwing up their careers. Bad decisions usually lead to bad outcomes...this was one of those. Hopefully, he learned something from this and can get his life back on track, and maybe keep his political ideals off of social media.
4
The wheels of justice turn slowly, but once they lock on a target they eventually get it… ask Nagin, ask Broussard, ask Jefferson. Soon we will ask Cantrell. New Orleans should be embarrassed to have such an arrogant clown represent their city.
4
The free ride has to end sometime. Got to start putting the pieces back together in order to get back to normal.
3
@chasreed7462 He is a retired owner...so not involved in day to day operations of Rouses. Also, he was not representing Rouses, so he is no different than Walmart stock holders attending a Trump rally.
3
So New Orleans elected a Mayor a few years ago who did not pay her taxes, now New Orleans is considering putting in a DA with a shady tax payment history. Way to go people, I guess once you hit bottom, the only way you can go is up.
3
"Where did I go wrong?" Correct answer to that question is that you failed to use birth control. Neither of these "parents" are qualified to be parents based on their history. Older child is already in Juve, and now the 11 year old is on his way too. Obviously these kids are products of their environments and negligent "parents"
3
Mr. Shepherd is not being completely honest when he says he has lived on Westbank his entire life...If we look back, he lived in Federal Prison for 2 years about 10 years ago when he was convicted of Money Laundering while he was a state senator. Just something to consider when looking for another council rep.
3
@TheJesselopez1981 I would like some croutons on the word salad you're trying to serve. 1st this Louisiana, not Cali, 2nd if a court orders death penalty, it is a law (so not lawless as you imply). Same as if court orders you to spend time in prison, it is lawful confinement, not hostage or kidnapping. Stop trying to spin doctor this to try and support your position. It is simple, eye for an eye...
3
Cantrell cannot give a straight answer on anything... This is why New Orleans is spinning out of control, her and her administration talk a lot of BS but get nothing accomplished, except for her lavish trips and other perks she entitles herself to, those are a must.
3
You don't bring a taser to a knife or gun fight. If the perp is on meth or some other stimulant, the taser most likely will not have much effect. Cop followed protocol and shooting was good. Technically, the cop should have targeted chest area (center mass) based on training, but instead shot him in arm holding knife, so cop was very aware of situation and did great job of deescalating the situation.
3
All will be back on the street in less than 24 hours. New Orleans has a revolving door for criminals...and the criminals know it.
3
Maybe the solution is to take the same axe to the fool that damaged all this property...DA in New Orleans will most likely not prosecute this since no one was injured.
3
Next step is to investigate her for malfeasance and corruption...we all know she has been stealing and abusing her position as mayor. She is going to ransack the city for the rest of her term...
3
This DA is totally useless... The reason crime is spiking in New Orleans is mainly because he fails to prosecute criminals, and he is very soft on juvenile crime. Not only should Mayor be recalled, the DA should be recalled also. Both useless & both criminals.
3
Maybe the layoff's should start in her office...specifically her. She's talking about kicking cans down the road...but let us not forget that prior to her becoming may she served extensive terms on City Council, so she was drinking from the cans she is now having to pick up.
3
Now you know why he is on radio, and not television.
3
If he is affiliated with Latoya, maybe investigation is about whether or not he is paying his taxes...we know she doesn't pay hers.
3
@tahjjj1488 if parents raise their children correctly, nobody would go to jail...unfortunately, kids are not learning right from wrong at home, so they commit crimes at early age...if they are not jailed as kids they most likely will be a lifetime prisoner as an adult.
3
Mayor does not care about victims...she is a thug, and thugs stick together.
3
Too bad the Hard Rock Hotel is not finished...they could have used those extra rooms now for all these displaced people.
3
New Orleans is like the Wild West...
3
I'm sure they will happily accept the deputy's monetary donations to the church and also his child care fees, but other than that he is not allowed on premises. What a joke.
3
More hanky panky with city money by the mayor...as the house of cards begins to fall.
3
@BGTravelFoodieTV He was a cold blooded murderer...not a victim. Victims were the people he shot and those that died, along with their families. Do not confuse the 2... he incited the violence, and thankfully he was one of the people that died as a result, so he will not be able to do any further harm to others.
3
Skip the review and call for resignation of assessor.
3
Typical politician...used his position to get a pass on jail time. If the same thing happened to the ordinary citizen, jail and big fines would be the result. The "I apologized to everybody" and "I went into rehab" BS doesn't cover it...dude should have done a few months in slammer, and made to pick up trash on streets in his district for a few weeks. That would have been more appropriate.
3
Key statements here: 1) Promoted by Latoya Cantrell, 2) neglect of duty, 3) wasted money & resources, 4) complaints by personnel & never investigated, 5) collected a paycheck from city while concurrently running his own private business...does anyone see a trend here? Sounds all too similar to what Mayor Cantrell is doing. When will we prosecute and imprison these con artists posing as government servants? Please make examples of these crooks...jail time and restitution is needed here.
