  8. That sounds like something an able bodied person would say. I have a friend who served, & now has brain cancer (amongst many other things), no family (that’s a large reason people join). I don’t own a tv, & haven’t watched the news in over 25 years, but how do you tell someone who is dependent upon a monthly check, not to worry & not to pay any attention to politics when politics affects us all?

  9.  @my2centstoo Are you not aware that over 80% of the budget goes to military, & has been since Reagan? If we could take just 5% of that, there’d be more than enough to go around. However, as it stands now, the aid benefits the US because the artillery is being made here.

  16. I would caution not to choose a truck, if you’re able to trade for something else, just bc trucks were not made with fuel efficiency in mind. I’ve been lucky to get 12 mpg out of any of the trucks I’ve owned, even the mini trucks.

  21. We have an older tiny church that has a clothing donation drop & they make sure anyone in need receives it, & sells any leftovers for $1 a bag. There’s another that’s slightly larger that handles food donations & partners with a resale for pet food donations. Then there’s one that opens its doors whenever the weather’s severe, the pastor ask police not to bother anyone who is asleep on the steeps or parking lot. All 3 barely have any parking. But just half a mile down, there’s door to door mega churches for at least an 11 mile stretch, & with 1-3 acre landscaped parking lots that are barricaded 156 hours a week. The oldest actually has 12 RV hookups… reserved for family.

I’ve house & pet sat for 50 years now & have a home base that lost all its amenities while I was trying to get back on my feet after a bout with cancer, so I housesit every chance I get, but my place has plenty of overnight & day parking for now. I’ll check with the folks who run the food pantry.

  33. Y’all be careful with that. I had a nice canister with a leather hostler for like 3 years… one rainy night I was awakened by a hiss & a crash. Lay frozen, listening, thinking someone had broken in… then I began to choke & my eyes were burning… the canister had disintegrated & went airborne across the room, hitting a mirror. By the time I was able to access what had happened, one of the worst electrical storms I’ve ever experienced began & I had to brave it to get out of my small house. It was 48 hours before it wore off enough.

  36.  @EfficientRVer Exactly. I’ve grown up with a father & two BIL who are/were gunsmiths & who think everyone should be armed. As a result, I’ve known some disorganized nervous Nelly’s who should have never carried any kind of firearm, one blew her finger off, & another one’s grandkid got ahold of it. As for my well-trained older sister, she no longer carries since somehow she managed to put a hole in her butt.

  38. I have the tools & mighty resourceful, I don’t mind helping someone do a build & if someone needs shelter quickly, I don’t mind volunteering 8 hours to a build. Do any of y’all know of a network that can aid in helping getting the connections? Tia I’m in south Texas, but hoping to be further west by next year.

  39. Share this with everyone who ask for $$. I didn’t have an allowance until I was 11 yrs old, & it was a nickel a week, & that’s how I learned to live on dime. But I’ve come to realize that budgeting isn’t intuitive. There’s a young veteran who was down to nothing & living in his car, with help he was able to get an RV. After about 2 months I showed him a job listing 2 blocks away. He got the job & is really happy with it. I’ve offered to take him to the laundromat where I spend $3 to wash & dry a load of clothes, but he prefers to the newest laundromat that’s no less than $10 a load. I wouldn’t mention this but, because he’s out of money every 3 weeks, he ask that I bring him food, which I can barely afford my own.

  40. We used make yearly trips across the country before I started school ( 55 years ago ). And although I get motion sickness, I enjoyed meeting & experiencing different cultures. It was quite an experience. Wish I was able to do it all over again.

  42. I bought a hunk of land 30 years ago, & it still requires weekly maintenance ( twice a week in the summer ) & taxes to be paid. The city incorporated it 6 years ago, & as of 3 years ago, they no longer allow RVs to be parked inside the city limits.

  45. I’m always astounded that someone would be so insensitive to ask such. Not everyone has family. I’ve known 3 men who lost their entire families in separate head on collisions (one was suicide & had both children in the car, & the guy was an only child. Another was a guy I had dated, & the other was a guy I had hired). I wouldn’t dare ask about something that is at the top of the list of being personal.

  48. There’s a mistake on mine that I have to have corrected before I can file. Was finally able to round up everything they needed the week of Christmas… I haven’t been able to get through either. I’ll be making the 78 mile round trip before the end of the month to see if I can set an appointment in person.

  49. Can’t understand it either, & that’s just one of the reasons why I haven’t spoken to my stepsister in ten years. She’s the one that hits the fast food joints multiple times a day (while living in a house that she “earned” by pushing her elderly MIL & FIL out of), while yelling that those people who are serving her “need to do their dues, just as those CEOs had to”. She wasn’t always so crass, until she started watching a particular “news” network.
