OMG..... I am so sick of misinformed folks talking about the Chinese Great Wall as a failure If you want some nuance let me tell you: The first construction of the Chinese Great Wall was done in 220 BC, the Mongolian invasion of China was in 1220 AD meaning for over 1000 years the wall did it's damn job And further let me add that when the Mongols invaded there were 2 kingdoms that were inheritors of the Great wall, the Jin and the Xi Xia The Jin maintained, expanded, manned, and patrolled their segments of the wall and repelled many attempts at breech by the Mongolians, the Kingdom of Xi Xia did not

Post WW2 Germany like Japan maintained a strict pacifism policy as a penance for the sufferings from the war and it was an okay policy it made ethical and historical sense for the time but it's now been over 80 years that policy is no longer needed even Switzerland is also questioning its historical neutrality because Switzerland now no longer needs neutrality as it's surrounded on all sides by NATO members and those NATO members will never allow a hostile foreign military to push through their own territories in an effort to conquer Switzerland so Switzerland doesn't even need its own military neutrality anymore and it is attempting to align itself more with the West and NATO

Yeah I largely agree as well the nukes are only ever good for is one thing and that is once you have them you prevent your nation from ever being invaded by a foreign military through conventional means That's the only thing nukes do you can't use them on anyone else for if used you face a massive fear of reprisal but if you just have them then you never need fear a D-Day style invasion in your country that's the only good thing nukes ever bring
2
@krakhedd yes the Japanese bombing is the only exception and it's because the US was the sole monopoly of the nuclear weapon But other than that everything I've said is the current doctrine for all nuclear powers
2
Yeah separation and Independence and secession movements are always messy and when it comes to the United Kingdom specifically you only need to look at how Ireland gained its independence to see how messy it would be
2
For once some good news
2
pretty much not since the 1700s has Moscow seen victory by legitimate means
2
@ron88303 No the word legitimate very much still relevant to war it's the reason why Russia won't keep the territories which "voted" to join the Russian state when they are ultimately liberated by the Ukrainians
2
Well this dude just throw out his channel to hide his content mostly behind the paywall and give everyone else a few glimpses once every 7 days but I guess if that's what he wants to do his business he can but it looks crazy to me
2
No that is very much a different beast altogether this is large scale automotive manufacturing it cannot be compared to the five years of research that went into the very first iPhone before it released market into 2007 this is an already established company and an established product

Cubans as individual citizens love the American culture it's the Cuban state however that is the difficulty they just hate the US government and it's institutions And this isn't a self loathing thing that Americans themselves do nor is it a political partisan style split disagreement, it's a foundational hatred on the style of an ideological difference, similar to what the USSR was And until that barrier is overcome it's going to be awhile before there's ever a normalizing a relationship with the Cuban state Luckily the Cuban state, like most communist countries has largely failed to bring the citizens of Cuba the prosperity they have desired and therefore is a bit more receptive to finally negotiating all these decades later
2
Gotta be aggressive if you want to be the dominant global power, and there WILL always be a dominant global power Just lucky the US did all that before there was modern style communications and globalization, otherwise yes it probably would have suffered a multinational military coalition to help cease it's aggressive posturing
2
@Rob_F8F no I'd say modern style communications and globalization are the result of the dominant global power whoever that might be Don't get me wrong buddy I'm glad the dominant global power is the US, but at the same time yes I recognize some of the less savory tactics they took to get there

In English it's fine to pronounce it that way, just like how English pronounces Caesar wrong
1
You forgot another reason Peter Tesla and their anti-consumer and anti-right to repair tactics no one is going to want to buy a Tesla if it cost them over $500 to change a brake light because they don't have access to do any sort of maintenance on their own vehicle that they paid as you said luxury prices for
1
I'm just like what Peter said I've never been against renewables but I've pointed out the issue many times if you want renewables to do their job to what fossil fuels do you need real estate you need hundreds of thousands of acres for solar panel farms or you need a massive giant wind towers 1000 ft high and multiples of them in an large area if you want them to ever be efficient in the generation and then after that you need to transmit everything that you've generated So I'm glad to see at least one company has figured out that that's the crux of problems they need to solve
1
It's not a argument that's a good one it's just an argument that Russia themselves makes No one is agreeing with Russia and their 18th century style of security through conquest and annexation
1
Because the government of California heavily taxes and regulates that industry
1
It will also have to climb out of centuries of Arab colonialism as well The Arabs were the first foreign power to conquer much of the continent and they have held influence there for millennia much to the detriment of the native Africans
1
Plot twist that was actually Peter's wife in the background
1
Yep I commented something similar
1
Yes it is a genocide as they are taking children away from Ukraine relocating them and putting them in Russia that's called ethnic cleansing and it is considered a form of genocide as set by the standards of international law In fact the Russian government has been so brazen to widely announce this it was a major reason why Putin was given that ICC arrest warrant
1
In the US sure, but the drug trade world wide existed long before the CIA ever got involved
1
Buddy, pretty sure this is a cultural thing like how the British pronounce Zebra "incorrectly" as Zebb - brah and not Zee - bruh
1
PZ every time you make these outdoor videos a freaking plane never fails to fly over 🤣
1
He's not saying that they will he's just presenting a hypothetical scenario But that is what Russia wants, Russia wants a vast control of annexed territory that covers up the majority of the European plain because they feel it's the only way to be secure and it's completely stupid it's obsolete medieval way of thinking but it's Russia's way of thinking And so they keep pushing for it regardless of how many times they fail at it Russia and it's predecessor state the Soviet Union has done nothing but poorly in every single war it's had had since the 1980s From 80s Afghanistan to 1996 Chechnya to 2008 Georgia and now to 2022 Ukraine
1
@utubefuku7132 lol I'm just surprised that it's been a century and yet King Cotton is still being somewhat used lol
1
Free Balochistan! Free Ossetia! Try to not fear the white rooms!
1
I just have to let you know mr. Zeihan That the United States has not withdrawn from the Middle East, and the United States can't withdraw from the Middle East completely it's part of CENTCOM meaning there is an area of responsibility for the United States military to operate in the Middle East from now until the fall of the US as a nation
1
@renaissance17 and that makes no sense I don't know why he slandered today yes he participated in slavery by owning many himself but at the same time he also fought against the expansion of slavery into new territories Jefferson spoke out against slavery as a whole he didn't like it but he did participate in it he also wisely recognized that slavery was going to be the next problem that the us would have to face and he tried to do his best to ensure the gradual restriction and removal of the institution because he knew that ever since the American revolution if the central government were to force slavery to be removed from the country it would spark a conflict or a civil war and lo and behold his prediction came true
1
And they do
1
But you're also part of the Nordic countries as well And to make it even more confusing, if one were to be technically correct (the best kind of correct) and exclusively refer to the Scandinavian peninsula it would include Finland and exclude Denmark
1
@Alexandra-zp3gr indeed it does you also forgot Norway in that list but if Ukraine falls it would border it moreso than it already does
1
@adeveloper6653 indeed it does but it would border it more so
1
@bighands69 again we are only speculating we don't know exactly what would These are educated guesses
1
I keep forgetting that the already competent commander for Russia is missing and presumed ded siloviken and isn't shoigu the incompetent one
1
Even more reason why California is a hellhole full of jerks
1
Ar chas donv' yelo da ouez! Watch out France
1
@hhiippiittyy you might want to recheck your history there buddy Quebec has used violence to further their cause for separation multiple times
1
@bwarre2884 I agree and I never justified what they did I only gave an explanation of why
1
Well I say careful! we already fell into the trap that if we give business with the Chinese they will eventually drop their communist government and a popular uprising will turn them to democracy And that never happened despite all the inclusion of the Chinese into the world stage
1
Pretty much every former Soviet nation allied to the West/NATO or nation that was attacked by Russia in the past is trying to eliminate OR significantly reduce the population of Russians in their own borders And I can understand why, Russian government keeps using a large population of Russians living in a foreign nation as a casus belli for intervention
1
I'm pretty sure being born in 2000 doesn't make you a zoomer
1
It absolutely can
1
He's subscribed to a private intelligence gathering agency And he also has connections from when he used to work himself at a private intelligence agency that was founded by Hungarian-American geopolitical analyst George Friedman Remember money and influence can get you information often faster and more detailed compared to us plebs
1
The only downside Aussie has is that you force voters to vote and if they do not they are fined This means that candidates will have to work less hard to win votes Now some voters mitigate this because they simply "mark" the ballot with any kind of illegible mark and that then counts as them voting and thus they avoid the fine
1
@tonywilson4713 my facts are straight they were very specific to the point because they had to omit for the sake of brevity and yes there is a fine if you don't give any reason at all, that's why I said what I said I simply didn't want to do a giant comment but I'm glad you did
1
I'm not surprised Russia withdrew from the Open Skies treaty
1
I don't know why but for some reason PZ's eyes look super large in the video for some reason 🤔
1
Don't forget about the fact China has a secret military base in Tajikistan already right in Russia's backyard
