I don't think you're gonna say that regarding how France does it's elections In fact you'll feel quite at home
1
Peter got those Ozzy Osbourne glasses 🕶️ Looking good bro 😎
1
I'm not so sure because the military had to lower the physical requirements for the millennial generation twice
1
Lauri Torni smiling down from heaven at all of Finland and the US finally formally united as allies
1
China was able to do it when they banned Bitcoin and they didn't use an AI But yes it goes to show you that government resources can be successful in this regard
1
I think that's actually pointless semantics it's about as pointless as Putin trying to claim his military invasion was a special military operation It doesn't matter if he "paused it" "stopped it" or "withdrew from it" the point of the matter is he doesn't want to follow the rules set by that treaty
1
@dannyboy218 not my circus not my not my monkeys not going to weigh in that is Scotland and their decision
1
It wouldn't be a "checkmate" but it would finally end overt boots-on-the-ground style of actual warfare in Ukraine by the Russians Which still is a very good thing and I agree and I think Ukraine also agrees that once this war ends they will b-line it to the NATO membership line faster than Usain bolt running on a giant griddle covered in butter Meaning that once they're in NATO Russia can't do anything overtly and they will have to just do covert and subversion tactics which hey I'm all for battling them in the covert and subversion space because it's less damaging that way
1
The same thing as what that happened in Ukraine in 1991 when it gained independence the new nations will inherit the physical access to that arsenal Russia or rather more correctly the Soviet Union has never given out any of its codes or procedures for launch to any of the satellite nations when it was a conglomeration of the Soviet republics Meaning even if Russia today collapsed and new nations were born out of it none of them can independently launch any of those weapons All they can do it just maintain physical control to the sites that have access to them
1
@grzegorzkapica7930 Unlikely yes, but still a possibility as you said The fail-safes that are built into those mechanisms are top-notch and just because you've purchased the weapon and brought it over to your new country doesn't mean it's going to operate perfectly Especially if you don't have the know-how documentation that was kept in the Kremlin and didn't come included in your purchase
1
@grzegorzkapica7930 Also not to mention selling those types of weapons is an international crime and your hypothetical country and its current leader would be placed at the top of the list to be hunted down and destroyed or removed from power And further since you can't actually operate any of those weapons that you inherited as a hypothetical breakaway Nation from Russia you don't have any means of deterrence from US coalition led army or a special forces strike team coming in to take out that leader that's trying to broker the sale of the weapon
1
@grzegorzkapica7930 Yes but that's still an international crime the trade of weapons-grade nuclear material is controlled down to the gram But yes if you are a tin-pot dictator and you want to try your hand at making some money you can certainly make the attempt at selling that type of stuff but you again will find yourself placed on a list and you will become a target
1
@grzegorzkapica7930 in that hypothetical scenario of a new nation inheriting Russian nukes it's much better to do what Ukraine did when they gained independence in 1991 in two years since that event in 1993 they brokered a deal to give all those weapons back to the successor state of the Soviet Union, Russia They did not want them in their country anymore and again they were pretty much useless to the Ukrainians as they could not launch them and they cannot use them as a means of deterrence And they did not want to ever be placed under any international sanctions or face an international coalition led army because they attempted to sell them to other states
1
Everyone always forgets the legislature branch and it's votes that stand in opposition to the current sitting president So yeah Milei better learn how to negotiate rather quick or he's going to be another unsuccessful Argentine president
1
They didn't do as much as the US though, it took them a while to finally start sending weapons and the armaments for those weapons Instead Germany was sending pillows and helmets to the Ukrainians
1
I mean California shot themselves in the foot too many times what's surprising is only now it begins to bleed
1
I mean you're right but you're thinking logically and often dictators like Putin don't think logically when they are backed into a corner The possibility of a nuclear threat is there because it will always be there but I do think it's unlikely What's ironic is that the simple fact that Russia has nukes is the one and only reason why the United States and NATO members haven't sent in conventional forces boots-on-the-ground style to assist Ukraine directly If they did they'd be crushing Russia and Ukraine would be free of Russian forces in its territory already, so essentially nukes are saving Putin's ass 🤣 They are the one thing that's preventing a much stronger response from the West to the current Russian-Ukrainian conflict
1
Maybe just don't use Twitter it serves no purpose
1
I knew Moldova was the next target by Russia, I'm just surprised they doing this at the same time while still fighting in Ukraine
1
Thank God! Welcome aboard Finland! Finally a NATO member that can pull it's own weight! Now come on Sweden! We need you next! Heck kick out turkey, those assholes have been abusing their NATO membership for decades
1
Saudi Arabia is only a friend to the US because the US doesn't like Iran and because the US would like Saudi Arabia to continue its supplies into Europe that's pretty much it Former president Truman who was on death's door, went to Saudi Arabia to negotiate the deal that would first begin trade between the US and Saudi Arabia almost 70 years ago
1
For the Love of Pete I dislike having to explain this over and over again but I will if I have to When it comes to Ukraine becoming their own Nation in 1991 and the concept of them having nuclear weapons the ukrainians did not ever at anytime have the ability to utilize those weapons that the Soviets placed in the nation what the ukrainians had when they gained independence from the Soviet Union was control over physical area of the silos in which they resided in they had no means to press the red button themselves any and all codes were kept in Moscow in the Kremlin and they were never released to the Ukrainian government when they gained independence and they were never released to the Ukrainian government when they were Soviet socialist republic And that's why Ukraine in 1994 was more than eager to get rid of those weapons because they wisely recognized their existence would be possibly be used as a justification by Russia to do a special military action to "recover" their lost technology the US happily agreed to assist Ukraine because the US just likes the idea of less and less countries having nuclear weapons and I don't blame them I completely agree with that view the less countries having them the better And Russia agreed because Russia just wanted their lost technology back and they even though don't like the US they still have the same pragmatic viewas the US: whereas the less countries that have nuclear weapons the easier it is for the Russians to exert influence over those exact same countries
1
@leperabbot3343 I don't disagree but American politics and foreign policy has shifted greatly over the decades and basically anything is possible at this point
1
@libraryofpangea7018 true but sometimes the government is not allowing even the citizens to do such examples of moral support such as that some nations making it illegal to go and fight for the flag of Ukraine Making it an even more confusing mess
1
Must be a regional speech thing, since Bush was from Texas and Peter is from Iowa 🤷
1
I mean this guy that's leading Wagner has no chance of successfully tearing down the head of state of Russia but I just admire his MASSIVE balls of steel to make the attempt Were he not a massive war criminal I would probably cheer on his efforts But in this regard I just hope they all battle each other and reduce their numbers fully so that they ukrainians can have an easier time defending their land It's not everyday that you get to see Caesar like event where he's crossing the Rubicon and "the die is cast"
1
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KICK TURKEY OUT OF NATO!!!!
1
Kissinger competent?! DAFAUQ you smoking
1
Yeah pretty much Biden has it in the bag when in comes to 2024 election and that's just me being objective You can say it's for better or for better or worse depending on your political leanings But it stands to the current political climate of where now Trump is now in jail and Desantis is not as well liked as he thinks he is outside of Florida So yeah pretty much Biden just has to not die of old age and he's president for another 4 years
1
Non sunglasses Peter is weird looking lol 😂
1
@PaulVerhoeven2 you are correct yet it must be said there's many spectrums of pacifism Japan obviously felt they needed more penance than most because they suffered those two nuclear explosions so Japan never wanted fully capable military industrial complex to sell its weapons around the world and even to this day despite Japan's attempts at rearming and rewriting it's constitution for the creation of a proper military, the industrial complex behind that same Japanese military is relatively small and it has no real means of trying to further improve itself because it legally only has one customer, and that is the Japanese government The Germans found themselves split in half in following WW2 with that same half in the east literally pointing guns in their faces So I'm not surprised that Germany at the time despite their policy of pacifism and foreign non-intervention still used their capital and engineering prowess to help other nations in military armament and development. With such companies as Krupp and HK
1
@krakhedd no it's correct, every nation that has nuclear weapons capability just has them simply as a deterrent for their use And as guarantee for border sovereignty, they will never be invaded by foreign hostile power as long as they have them, but at the same time they can never actually use them for fear of global reprisal Because these same powers recognize the instant that one nation utilizes that capability to strike, no matter what type of strike it is or how much they might try to "justify" it, they will be hated a hundred fold and denounced and condemned world wide Which is why enemies of nuclear power nations engage in unconventional warfare instead
1
@landontesar3070 which one? I'll post it for you that way you can see it in your reply notification even if you can't see them in the comment chain
1
There is no proper means of pronunciation it's a regional speech thing based on whatever accent you have while living in the United States with the same reason why people pronounce ask differently Folks like to pronounce it as "AXE" which to me sounds very wrong but again I just recognize it's a regional speech and accent thing
1
I hope this means italy will finally stop capitulating to the Chinese government
1
I'm curious to see if environmental groups would oppose the repeal of the Jones act? 🤔
1
This is true but Germany did do colonization and atrocities prior to both WW1 and WW2 in Africa, specifically in modern day Namibia. It was the first genocide by the unified German Empire State and it went from 1904 and lasted 4 years
1
No they don't need to go nuclear themselves just they need to go and join NATO asap once the war ends and then by extension they'll be under the United States' and NATO nuclear armed members' (France and Britain) umbrella
1
@justnot8232 the willful or unwillful vigilance to take notice of gang development And the continuation of a leniency when it comes to law enforcement, punishment, and sentencing by gang perpetrators

All social media is tbh

If I could wish an earthquake to affect only one person in Turkey it would be Erdogan Sadly that's not how nature works, my sympathies for the folks who suffered from this but my scorn for Erdogan as well and my hope he's suffering
1
@ron88303 the illegitimacy from that stems from the fact the Russians very much like to downplay or sometimes completely negate the assistance that they got from the West involving them fighting the Axis and the Germans They also very much like to hide, downplay or ignore the fact that they were once allied with the Germans in the outbreak of the War in 1939 That's where the illegitimacy finds itself into the Russian mindset
1
Never forget the MBS sent a virus called Pegasus to the Phone of Jeff Bezos to black mail him and force him to give up a Saudi dissident Khashoggi who wrote for the Washington Post Later that poor man would be literally cut to pieces in the Saudi Consolate in Turkey on orders of MBS
1
@hometown1474 it's "abundant" yes but not all lithium deposits are equal and not all deposits contain a high concentration of lithium either there's different qualities in lithium and even if you find the lithium you still need to process it before it's used in manufacturing
1
@w8stral nice comeback 👍
1
Lol 😂 that was the best thing ever about crypto If it's not a scam it's a pyramid scheme
1
Cold War 2.0 baby
1
Not unless they unban Zidane and take him back 🤣
1
I'm sorry PZ but I feel like you've got the wrong impression on ESG it's the equivalent of China's social credit score but for the moment it's just applied to companies The problem is is all of us can recognize the writing on the wall but if companies which largely dictate a lot of our rights these days we'll start to see these guys pushing this ESG on the individual And you've already seen it happen with PayPal withdrawing money from your account without notice if you say something "rude" things or that time in the Amazon Alexa locked the man out of his house for allegedly saying something inappropriate None of this should ever be applicable to the person under any circumstances
1
Oh yeah China already proved that things like a cryptocurrency can be cracked or outright banned in their jurisdiction Goes to show you the real privacy provided by these things 🤣
